Janice Reed began horn, piano, and choir school at age 8 in her hometown of Glens
Falls, NY. While attending college in the 70s she played horn with the Lake George
Opera and the Binghamton Symphony. She continued her studies at the Juilliard
School, earning a BM in horn. During her time in New York City Janice played with the
NOA under Leon Barzin, and with the Choros Woodwind Quintet in the Lincoln Center
Student Program.

In 1977 Janice played two seasons with the Savannah Symphony under Christian
Badea, then joined the US Army Band, serving in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon returning to
the states, now with a husband and two young children, she returned to school, earning
master’s degrees from Indiana University and Butler University. Concurrently Janice
began teaching piano, working as a studio accompanist for Ballet Met In Columbus,
Ohio, and began serving as a church organist.

In 2004 her husband’s job took her to Germany where she established a private piano
studio for the military community in Wiesbaden, while playing horn in several regional
ensembles, including Collegium Musicum in Mainz and the Sinfonieorchestre Rhein-
Main.

Since 2023 Janice has lived in Keene, NH with her husband Don, playing in regional
ensembles including the Windham Philharmonic, and working as a substitute organist.
