German American bass-baritone Karl Buttermann is preparing to portray Kurwenal in TUNDI

Productions’ Wagner in Vermont Festival’s Tristan und Isolde in Brattleboro, Vermont for this upcoming summer of 2026. He most recently sang Gunther in TUNDI’s Der Ring des Nibelungen in the summer of 2025. Previously, Mr. Buttermann performed Papageno as a partial role in an abridged version of The Magic Flute with Opera for the Young for their 2024-2025 season tour in Madison, Wisconsin. He also executed the roles of Donner and Gunther in Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung in the summer of 2024, again with TUNDI. In the fall of 2023, Mr. Buttermann ventured into contemporary opera, where he explicated the roles of Prophet/ King in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters with Journey North Opera Company in Minneapolis,

Minnesota. In the summer of 2023, he covered Wanderer in TUNDI’s Siegfried.
